總部設在法國的馬賽，1977年CMA(Compagnie Générale Maritime) 以合併的方式正式成立，隔年CGM (Compagnie Maritimed’Affrètement) 成立，這兩家法國船務公司在1999年正式合併。

目前他們旗下擁有將近4000艘船，以及近1000K個TEU，是航運界的第三大船公司。
